Professional Supervision

Supervision is an objective accountability process, in which the supervisor assists someone to reflect critically on their own professional work, and make changes where necessary. Invaluable support for people who are themselves working with people in a wide variety of settings.  (i.e. managers, workplace leaders, nurses, counsellors, social workers, pastors etc).

Who needs supervision?

Anyone who is working with people as a professional helper or workplace supervisor, or as one of a team.  Whenever people work closely with others, there are likely to be times when having someone to help maintain clear perspective could be invaluable.

Purposes of Supervision

Supervisors are accountable to provide a personally and professionally safe and confidential environment where workers are enabled to discover and address any issues that may be hindering their ability to function well.

Anyone who is working with people: whether as a professional helper, workplace supervisor, or as one of a team, needs support (e.g. teachers, social workers, managers).

What is the Process?

Professional support is a dynamic supportive process in which a worker is assisted to meet organisational, professional and personal objectives including competence, accountability, and professional development.

Supporters work in ways which allow the professional person to reflect critically on their own work, and to make changes where necessary.

Supervision is NOT ...

  • personal counselling or therapy

  • telling somebody what to do

  • dependency on someone

  • sharing common concerns or gossip

  •  coffee with a friend
