In
1990, members of a local Church established the 'Christian Counselling
Centre' in response to social needs seen in the Horowhenua community.
Six years later the ‘Levin Christian Care Trust’ was formed, and
took responsibility to provide governance for the organization. The
Board currently has representatives from five local Churches.
The original purpose of
reaching out to the Horowhenua community with loving concern and nurture
has remained the strong focus, which is reflected in the purpose
statement …
Healing the wounds of the broken hearted.
Ø
The agency
enjoys a very high level of acceptance and trust within the Horowhenua
community. It is recognised that ' word of mouth' is a powerful factor
in peoples' choice to use social services; the Counselling Centre’s
reputation is therefore invaluable.
Ø
This high
level confidence is also reflected in the appointment of the Christian
Counselling Centre as an approved service provider under the Children
Young Person & Their Families Act 1989, Section 403 (Provider 20230).
Their biannual review has consistently been positive.
Ø
Public
and Government organisations regularly use our services. i.e. Primary and
Secondary
Schools, NZ Probation Service, Mental Health Services, Police, Victim
Support, PHOs, Medical Practitioners and EAP services.
Ø
The majority
of people attending have sought help for themselves
